City Blues Grind Out Two Victories

Montreal City took two wins from two games in round 4 of AFL Quebec action Sunday, but not before a tough fight in both the men's and women's matches. Belles 7.12 (54) defeated Giants 2.5 (17). Blues 13.9 (87) defeated Bombers 7.11 (53).

The Bluebelles entered the round against an injury-plagued Giants team with some injury concerns of their own. It gave the team the opportunity to bring in three debutants and a shot at top spot on the table. Kicking into a stiff breeze in the first the term the game was a tight affair. With the wind at their backs in the second quarter the Belles skipped to a 5 goals to 1 lead and never looked back, eventually recording a 37 point victory. Amelia Dufour was dominant through the midfield, ruck Larissa Andrusyshyn kicking two fantastic goals up forward whilst rookies Camille, Lorianne and Sophia all impressed on debut.

In the men's division the Blues would again be kicking into the breeze in the first quarter and found themselves under attack from an all out assault from the Bombers. The Blues defence held firm and Laval was wasteful in front of goals, City hitting back hard in the second term to snatch the lead. Tough, hard and at times fiery, the Blues restricted the Bombers in the third and went on to claim a 34 point win and top spot in the league standings. Pat Eefting was again outstanding in the midfield, Nico Pouessel and James Dawson stellar in defence and debutant Dave Whitely proving a handy addition to the Blues roster.
